Homemade Hamburger Helper
I know, I know, it sounds icky. But it actually tastes good, and it's much better for you than the box version. And even better, it doesn't take long to make and it contains stuff I have in my pantry.
Homemade Hamburger Helper
KitchenGeisha
6 hearty servings
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 796 ml/28 fl oz can diced tomatoes
1/2 cup powdered milk
2 cups water
3 tbs tomato paste (for a more tomato-y sauce, add more)
pepper, to taste
1 340gr package broad egg noodles
salt, to taste
2 tsp dried basil
Brown ground beef in a large Dutch oven. Add onion and saute until translucent.
Add can of diced tomatoes and powdered milk. Stir. Add water and tomato paste. Stir yet again!
Bring to a boil and add egg noodles. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and stir often. Add more water as needed to cook noodles and keep a light sauce.
When noodles are done (about 10 to 15 minutes), stir in salt and basil. Cover and let sit for 5 minutes.
Serve.
